Share our 0800 and 0845 numbers
0800 numbers are the number of choice for companies who want to attract new customers. 0800 numbers have been available in the UK for years and have been through some changes. When the market was deregulated there were only 2 companies in the UK who could supply free phone or free call numbers. BT had the 0800 number range allocated to them and Mercury Communications had 0500 numbers to sell.. As the market became mature Oftel (now Ofcom) changed the format of 0800 numbers from 6 digits to 7 digits and stopped the allocation of 0500 numbers. The entire market now sell 0800 numbers with 7 digits as standard (for example 0800 015 0000 is a 7 digit number). The UK is fast running out of 0800 numbers and costs for the numbers are spiralling up. Some larger organisations are purchasing 0800 numbers and keeping their own stock to ensure that they have future capability. Don’t panic – Ofcom have released a new number range which are 0808 numbers. These 0808 numbers are exactly the same as 0800 numbers but they are less recognised by the general public. As more and more people start to use 0808 numbers then the knowledge that they are free to call will spread.
0800 numbers are no longer limited to where you can point them to. We can route 0800 numbers to UK landlines, UK mobiles, VOIP numbers, Voicemail Boxes, International landlines and International Mobiles. If you are looking to route your 0800 number to an international location it can be done but please call us so that we can explain the costs to you in full.
0800 numbers are free of charge to call if you are dialling from a UK landline. Calls to 0800 numbers from a mobile phone will be charged and may not be included in your bundle of minutes. Below is a list of tariffs from UK mobile operators for the cost to call 0800 numbers:
If you are calling an 0800 number from abroad +44 (0)800 you will have to check with your local telecommunications company for the charge to call the number. Not all countries will allow users to call UK 0800 numbers (most of the major countries will allow the call to be transmitted).
Numbers are usually live on the same day of placing the order. If you have ordered a complex feature it may take 48 hours to provide your service.
